“…A common carrier used for reactive extraction is trioctylmethylammonium chloride (TOMAC) also known as Aliquat 336. It is a carrier which was first used to remove metallic ions from aqueous solutions [1,2], but is now also used to for reactive extraction of amino acids [3,4], other acids of low molecular weight [5,6] and even extractive separation of enantiomers [7]. In this work we present a carrier system consisting of TOMAC and phenylboronic acid that is suitable to selectively remove N-acetylneuraminic acid (Neu5Ac) from the reaction mixture after its synthesis from N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc).…”

“…The investigation on the solvent extraction of iron (III) mainly focused on separation of iron from blue dust, iron scrap, waste chloride pickle liquors from steel plants and ilmenite leach liquors. A survey of the literature showed that a large number of reagents had been used for the extraction of iron (III), such as organophosphorus acid derivatives [1][2][3][4][5][6][7] , amines [8][9][10][11] , neutral extractants [12][13][14][15] , carboxylic acid etc. Among them, organophosphorus acid extractants and amines are the leading extractants for iron (III) in acid solutions.…”

“…The simultaneous extraction of micro and macro amounts of In, Fe, Ga, Cd, Co and Zn from HCl medium using Tri-n-octylamine (TOA) and Aliquat 336 in benzene as extractant showed a decrease in extraction of microelements in presence of the extractable of macroelements [8] . For Fe with TOA the extracted complex was TOAHFeCl 4 ; with Aliquot 336 the extracted complex was R 4 NFeCl 4 .…”

“…The reactive extraction of some carboxylic acids with tertiary and quaternary amines as an extractant was investigated by Uslu, and equilibrium parameters and thermodynamic parameters have been presented previously. Lactic acid extraction with alamine 336 was studied in terms of extraction kinetics by Wasewar et al Aliquat 336 is a reactant which removed metallic ions from aqueous solutions in previous works, , but recently it has been used for the reactive extraction of acids. The recovery of neuraminic acid from reaction solutions has been proposed by Zimmermann et al as a new method. Bora et al have used it for extracting β-lactam antibiotics and kinetic studies and stripping process have been suggested.…”
