“…A similar heterogeneous process was reported for the removal of aqueous Ba 2+ by natural and Fe(III) oxide-modified allophane, beidellite, and zeolite adsorbents [ 44 ]. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model best described the removal of Cu(II) and Pb(II) from wastewater in the case of Mxene/alginate composites [ 47 ], and of Pb(II) from an aqueous solution with activated carbon produced from palm fiber with treated oil [ 48 ].…”

“…[191][192][193][194][195][196][197] As adsorbents, MXenes have an excellent removal efficiency and selectivity for heavy metal ions (HMIs) with the strong absorption and reducing ability. [201] Generally, the concentration of toxic HMIs (e.g., Pb 2+ , [202][203][204][205] Hg 2+ , [206] Ba 2+ [199,207] ) in water is far lower than that of light metal ions (Li + , Na + , K + , Mg 2+ , Ca 2+ ). This means that the interactions of HMIs with MXenes are strong enough to break the shielding effect of water molecules or coordinating anions, with the formation of strong bonds.…”

“…It can be seen that the distinctive peaks at 3,436, 1,631 and 805 cm À1 were corresponding to the -OH stretching vibrations of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene, intimating that there were water moieties and -OH group existing on the surface of adsorbent (Shahzad et al 2019). The vibration band at 547 cm À1 presented the Ti-O stretching bands (Karthikeyan et al 2021a(Karthikeyan et al , 2021b, and the adsorption peak at 1629 and 1400 cm À1 belonged to the C ¼ O and C-O stretching vibration of the carboxyl group (Dong et al 2019). After Cr(VI) adsorption, the peak at 3,436 cm À1 was shifted to 3,430 cm À1 , indicating the hydrogen bonds were formed between the Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene and Cr(VI).…”
