MYB89 Transcription Factor Represses Seed Oil Accumulation

Abstract: ORCID IDs: 0000-0002-0738-7899 (M.Z.); 0000-0002-2121-9517 (M.C.).In many higher plants, seed oil accumulation is precisely controlled by intricate multilevel regulatory networks, among which transcriptional regulation mainly influences oil biosynthesis. In Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana), the master positive transcription factors, WRINKLED1 (WRI1) and LEAFY COTYLEDON1-LIKE (L1L), are important for seed oil accumulation. We found that an R2R3-MYB transcription factor, MYB89, was expressed predominantly in d… Show more

“…Studies have shown that some miRNAs and their target genes are related to seed size [13,46], and most of the target genes belong to transcription factors, mainly ARF [19,47], CNR [48] and MYB [49]. Our data showed there were 23 miRNA-mRNA Because MYB89 transcription factor represses seed oil accumulation in Arabidopsis, and it was expressed predominantly in developing seeds during maturation [50].…”

“…MYB89 (R2R3‐MYB transcription factor) highly expresses in developing seed during maturation which acts as a repressor for oil accumulation in seeds. The knockout of MYB89 factor resulted into high oil accumulation in myb89‐1 mutants in Arabidopsis (Li et al , ). Araip.22PIW (acyl‐CoA synthetase) serving as the carbon source for fatty acid biosynthesis in Arabidopsis which triggers oil accumulation in seed therefore might be associated with seed mass (Lin and Oliver, ).…”

“…Total RNA extraction and first‐strand cDNA synthesis were conducted as previously described (Li et al . ). Gene expression was determined by quantitative reverse transcription PCR (qRT‐PCR), using three independent biological replicates, with two technical replicates for each biological replicate.…”
