Abstract:Most prominent functional abnormalities seen in the failing human heart are impaired contraction and slowed rates of relaxation of cardiac cells in the face of increased neurohormonal activation, sustained inflammation, mechanical and volume overload, and progressive maladaptive remodeling of the myocardium.
