N-acyl Homoserine Lactone-Producing Pseudomonas putida Strain T2-2 from Human Tongue Surface

Abstract: Bacterial cell-to-cell communication (quorum sensing) refers to the regulation of bacterial gene expression in response to changes in microbial population density. Quorum sensing bacteria produce, release and respond to chemical signal molecules called autoinducers. Bacteria use two types of autoinducers, namely autoinducer-1 (AI-1) and autoinducer-2 (AI-2) where the former are N-acylhomoserine lactones and the latter is a product of the luxS gene. Most of the reported literatures show that the majority of ora… Show more

“…From RAST annotation, the closest neighbours of T2-2 were P. putida B6-2 (score 545), followed by P. putida F1 (score 502) and P. putida KT2440 and P. putida GB-1 (score 494). The present whole genome analysis of bacterial identification was in agreement with the previous report that relied on phylogenetics analysis of its 16S rDNA (Accession number: HQ907954) which clearly identified T2-2 as P. putida [ 13 ]. The 5,053 CDSs predicted by RAST were divided into subsystems and shown in Figure 1 .…”

“…The effect of bacteria on fungal growth was assessed using an agar plate method described by Kerr (1999) , with slight modifications adopted from Chen et al (2013) . P. aeruginosa strains PASS1, PASS2, and PAO1; and S. aurantiacum strains WM 06.482 and WM 08.202, were cultured together on a synthetic cystic fibrosis medium (SCFM) that mimics the nutritional content of human CF sputum.…”

“…There has been little evidence for AHL-mediated signalling in oral microbial communities, although a Pseudomonas species producing AHL has recently been isolated from the tongue surface [17]. AHLs have been shown to be chemoattractants for neutrophils, alter barrier integrity of epithelial cells, and increase macrophage phagocytic activity [18].…”
