N-Aryl-3-Aminopropionic acids as selective reagents for the determination of copper in metallurgical products

Abstract: Analytical characteristics of N,N-di(2-carboxyethyl)aniline ( I ), N,N-di(2-carboxyethyl)-3,4-xylidine ( II ), N-(2-carboxyethyl)anthranilic acid ( III ), N,N-di(2-carboxyethyl)-4,5-dimethylaminoazobenzene-4'-sulfonic acid ( IV ), and N-(2-carbamoylethyl)anthranilic acid ( V ) were studied. The factors affecting the selectivity of I -V for Cu(II) ions (basicity of the amino group, nature and positions of substituents in the benzene ring, and geometry of chelate cycles) were analyzed. The optimum conditions wer… Show more

“…The influence of oxalic, citric, and tartaric acids, EDTA, carbamide, thiocarbamide, Na 2 HPO 4 Á 12H 2 O, and NH 4 F on the selectivity of determining copper was studied as well, showing that the solution under analysis can contain all of these curtain substances, with the exception of EDTA, which can be presented only in small amounts. Taking into consideration all these analytical parameters, one can conclude that the proposed method is more selective than other similar methods (Podchainova and Simonova 1990;Chimpalee et al 1996;Li, Jiang, Lin 1997;Thakur and Deb 1999;Barreto Nozaki, and Barreto 1999;Karabocek et al 2000;Yun and Choi 2000;Winkler and Arenhö vel-Pacula 2000;Donglan et al 2002;Neudachina et al 2005;Du et al 2005;Kaur and Malik 2007;Sharma and Singh 2009).…”

“…The developed method is more selective, sensitive, reproducible, rapid, cheap, and simple than in most of the analogous methods cited in literature (Nolan 1983;Potts 1987;Podchainova and Simonova 1990;Chimpalee et al 1996;Li et al 1997;Ali et al 1998;Thakur and Deb 1999;Barreto et al 1999;Almeida et al 2000;Karabocek et al 2000;Yun and Choi 2000;Winkler and Arenhövel-Pacula 2000;Campos et al 2002;Donglan et al 2002;Ferreira at al. 2002;and Queiroz et al 2002;Cassella et al 2005;Du et al 2005;Neudachina et al 2005;Kaur and Malik 2007;Mohadesi and Taher 2007;Mashhadizadeh et al 2008;Sharma and Singh 2009). For these reasons, it can be used in routine analysis and can be applied for the determination of copper in a diversity of objects.…”
