N-Butyl Cyanoacrylate Is Very Effective for Massive Haemorrhage during the Perinatal Period

Abstract: ObjectiveThe liquid embolic agent n-butyl cyanoacrylate (NBCA) is a tissue adhesive used as an immediate and permanent embolic agent when mixed with oil-based contrast medium. In this study, the preservation of fertility with TAE using NBCA for massive haemorrhage during pregnancy or the peripartum period and the utility of this therapy were investigated.MethodsCases from January 2005 to October 2010 in which TAE was performed for massive haemorrhage in pregnant women, particularly during the peripartum period… Show more

“…reported about the possibility of uterine damage at uterine artery embolization with NBCA in comparison with gelatin sponge on the swine model ( 15 ). The pregnancy after NBCA had been shown by several reports ( 16 , 17 ). However the risk of uterine damage by NBCA has to be kelp in mind.…”

“…The use of NBCA in an animal model of hemorrhage-induced coagulopathy and various nontraumatic situations was demonstrated. [21,22] An 0.010-inch ED Coil Complex is a ready available electrical detachable coil and has a more complex outward shape and softer flexibility than conventional helical ED coils. We used these coils because the pseudoaneurysm was continuously bleeding and very fragile; coil deployment was successful.…”

“…The use of gelatin sponges is popular because of their ease of handling in both traumatic and non‐traumatic clinical settings. N‐butyl cyanoacrylate is increasingly being used because of its highly penetrable liquid nature in various non‐traumatic situations . Won et al .…”
