Abstract

In the present study the 2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-3,5,7-trihydroxy-4H-chromen-4-one isolated from the methanolic extract of leaves of Andrographis echioides was studied for alpha-amylase and alpha-glucosidase inhibition using an in-vitro model. The isolation was done using column chromatography using gradient elution with different mobile phase. Structural elucidation was carried out on the basis of spectral analysis. The study revealed that the 2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-3,5,7trihydroxy-4H-chromen-4-one exhibited significant α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities with an IC 50 value of 36.2 ± 0.42 and 41.4 ± 0.34% respectively and well compared with standard acarbose drug.
