Nano-Antimicrobial Solutions Using Synthetic-Natural Hybrid Designs

Abstract: Nanotechnology potential in antimicrobial therapy is increasingly demonstrated by various data. Results reveal antibacterial properties, comparable to that of conventional antibiotics. Working on parallel experiments, researchers continue to bring evidence demonstrating age-old-recognized antibacterial properties of various natural components of plant and animal origin. Later years brought an increasing trend for combining synthetic and natural composition in new constructs. The tendency aims to bring more on … Show more

“…Therefore, some of the iron may be released from the decomposed citrate during longterm incubation. It was also important to determine the effect of O-SWCNTs on the growth of S. oneidensis MR-1 because, unlike many other contaminants, CNTs are known to possess antimicrobial activity (Kang et al, 2008;Liu et al, 2009;Mocan et al, 2017). At concentrations below 30 μg/mL, O-SWCNTs enhanced the growth of S. oneidensis MR-1, whereas at concentrations above 40 μg/mL, they inhibited growth.…”

“…Biocompatibility, non-toxicity, ease of characterization, and high stability are some of the significant properties of AuNPs that promote their diverse applications (Cabuzu et al, 2015;Hu et al, 2020). So far, there are successful reports for the use of these compounds to detect various viruses and bacterial agents (Mocan et al, 2017;Singh et al, 2017). Antibody-based sensors or immunosensors, are a popular format of biosensors that change the transducer signal when a specific antigen-antibody reaction is detected (Cho et al, 2020).…”

“…Metal nanoparticles and especially gold nanoparticles (GNPs) have attracted a lot of interest from the scientific community due to their unique properties such as: large surface-to-volume ration, optoelectronic properties, rich functionality, low toxicity and high biocompatibility [1,2]. Recent advances in the fields of nanoparticles synthesis and functionalization resulted in novel medical applications [3,4]. One area of biomedical research in which GNPs have center stage is the development of carriers for cellular delivery of drugs, proteins and non-cell-penetrating peptides [5][6][7][8].…”
