Nano-Nutraceuticals for Health: Principles and Applications

Abstract: The use of nanotechnological products is increasing steadily. In this scenario, the application of nanotechnology in food science and as a technological platform is a reality. Among the several applications, the main use of this technology is for the development of foods and nutraceuticals with higher bioavailability, lower toxicity, and better sustainability. In the health field, nano-nutraceuticals are being used as supplementary products to treat an increasing number of diseases. This review summarizes the … Show more

“…A good example is Sinocurcumin. Curcumin is well‐known for its antiviral properties; however, it has limited clinical usage due to its low stability and solubility, rapid metabolism, high renal clearance rate, and poor bioavailability (Magne et al, 2023). However, a nano‐formulated curcumin, known as sinocarcumin demonstrated great improvement, in terms of its stability, solubility, bioavailability, and controlled dissociation rate, thus enhancing overall PK in vivo.…”

“…Microencapsulation helps protect probiotics from harsh stomach conditions, ensuring their survival and efficacy in the digestive system. [427][428][429][430][431][432][433] Drug delivery systems in cosmetics involve the encapsulation of active ingredients in nanocarriers like liposomes or nanoparticles. This ensures controlled release, targeted delivery, and enhanced penetration of substances into the skin for improved efficacy.…”
