Nanoassisted Laser Desorption-Ionization-MS Imaging of Tumors

Abstract: The ability of nanoassisted laser desorption-ionization mass spectrometry (NALDI-MS) imaging to provide selective chemical monitoring with proper spatial distribution of lipid profiles from tumor tissues after plate imprinting has been tested. NALDI-MS imaging identified and mapped several potential lipid biomarkers in a murine model of melanoma tumor (inoculation of B16/F10 cells). It also confirmed that the in vivo treatment of tumor bearing mice with synthetic supplement containing phosphoethanolamine (PHO-… Show more

“…The technique could successfully map several phospholipid biomarkers in a murine model of melanoma tumor. 30 3 | USE OF SELF-ASSEMBLED SURFACES The LDI-MS of self-assembled monolayers was reported in a US patent by Han et al 31 The method involves a simple pretreatment of analyte samples in the form of mono layers formed on a surface with cationic solution, and analysis of resulting positively charged self-assembled mono layers by laser desorption/ionization. 31 No matrix was needed for the desorption of the monolayers.…”

“…Fifty-six SN and fifty-eight SMM specimens were used to create and validate an algorithm classification model that could discriminate SN from SMM with 97% sensitivity and 90% specificity. Melanoma was also studied using nano-assisted laser desorption ionization (NALDI) MSI [149]. In this study, the authors searched for the changes in the lipidomic content of a murine model of melanoma treated by synthetic supplement containing phosphoethanolamine (PHO-S).…”
