Nanocomposites in Controlled & Targeted Drug Delivery Systems

Abstract: In recent years, development of different types of nanocomposites have increased their utilization in the biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences. The nanometer size range and unique composition make nanocomposites a beneficial alternative to any single conventional material. The present chapter provides a general overview of nanocomposites, discusses different types of nanocomposites such as metal, ceramic and polymer nanocomposites. The discussion is further focused on different nanocomposite based controlled… Show more

“…The inimitable encrusted structure of montmorillonite (clay) enhances the stability of bioactive agents by electrostatic-interaction which helps in controlled delivering by ionexchanging of drug molecules with other ionic interactions facilitated by the biological system [8,60]. Montmorillonite (MMT) clay minerals are mostly reported for the drugdelivering through eye transdermal, colon, and gastro retentive targeted drug delivery.…”

“…A number of excipients are available for drug delivery systems, where the use of polymers and polymeric compounds in a conventional pharmaceutical composition as coatings, binders, suspending agents, and surfactants are trending. A composite is a composition that consists of two or more dispersion components having optimized properties as compared to pure materials [8][9][10]. These composites might have micro or nanometric sizes in at least one dimension, so we consider this system as micro or nanocomposite.…”
