Nanoemulsion Formulation of Ocimum gratissimum Essential Oil and Its Antifungal Activity Against Penicillium digitatum

Abstract: Plant-derived essential oils and extracts are known to be effective against many microorganisms. The essential oil obtained from fresh leaves of Ocimum gratissimum possessed promising antifungal activity against Penicillium digitatum. The antifungal potential of O. gratissimum essential oil can be markedly improved with the use of nanotechnology. O. gratissimum essential oil based nanoformulations were prepared using non-ionic surfactant and water by ultrasonication. The process was optimized for parameters s… Show more

“…Insignificant surfactant diffusion and adsorption to the surface of newly formed droplets could have caused an insignificant reduction in MDD (Kentish et al, 2008). Among all ratios, 1:1 OSR was observed to be the most optimum and these findings were in agreement with those of Mahajan et al (2021) and Barzegar et al (2018).…”

“…Penicillium Species Mahajan et al (2021) tested Ocimum gratissimum EO and its nanoemulsions against P. digitatum of kinnow mandarin fruit by the poisoned food technique. The nanoemulsion exhibited stronger growth inhibition (1 × 10 4 CFU ml −1 , 96%) than unencapsulated oil (13 × 10 4 CFU ml −1 , 85%) on the 15 th day of incubation.…”
