Nanofluids effects on the evaporation rate in a solar still equipped with a heat exchanger

Abstract: In this paper, the performance of a solar still equipped with a heat exchanger using nanofluids has been studied both experimentally and theoretically through three key parameters, i.e., freshwater yield, energy efficiency and exergy efficiency. First, experiments are performed on a set-up, which is mainly composed of two flat plate solar collectors connected in series, and a solar still equipped with a heat exchanger. After heated in the collectors, the nanofluid enters the heat exchanger installed in the sol… Show more

“…Some metal oxide like TiO2 55 and Cd-sulfide nanoarticles have very strong catalytic property 56 which can be highly useful for fabricating cost-effective photoelectrodes used in the production of hydrogen from water splitting 57 . The nano-size structures in photovoltaic 58,59 cells increase the area of exposure of conducting surfaces which enhances the collection of solar energy. The use of mesoporous nanostructures 60 like quantum dots, carbon nanotubes and fullerenes in solar cells makes them cheaper, lighter and increases their efficiency, electrical conductivity, mechanical strength, durability and corrosion resistance [61][62][63] .…”

“…The technology of fluid nano is very expensive and it is not available for everyone. This technique has been used to improve the solar distiller efficiency and according to the results obtained by studies done in the laboratories, it gives a positive result . Another technique that competes with the technique of heating water is the cooling technique of the glazing.…”

“…[31][32][33] The authors used silicon solar cell as well as multijunction solar cell for PV module and analyzed the economical feasibility as well. Experimental and numerical researches were performed [34][35][36][37][38][39][40] based on PVT performance, system of pyramid-shaped solar water purification, solar collector of flat plate pattern, mini channel-based solar collector, evacuated tube, etc. The authors used different water-based nanofluids as well as water as heat transfer medium to enhance the thermal performance of the systems and reviewed the application of nanofluids on solar energy.…”
