Nanomaze Lure: Pheromone Sandwich in Graphene Oxide Interlayers for Sustainable Targeted Pest Control

Abstract: The indiscriminate use of pesticides leads to irreparable damage to the ecosystem, which motivates for sustainable alternatives like pheromone-assisted pest management. The tomato pinworm Tuta absoluta is a major threat to tomato cultivation. Moreover, its green management technology uses a pheromone trap that has a short field life. To overcome this problem, a pheromone composite with graphene oxide (GO) and amine-modified graphene oxide (AGO) that can extend the diffusion path has been developed. The composi… Show more

“…Similar, 3D assemblies with carbon and attapulgite were shown to control the release of pheromone and nutrient loss. 9,31,32 Interestingly, after the 50th day, in the coated samples, there is an enhanced release; this could be because in this 50 days of incubation time, swelling of the egg white due to its oxygen absorption property or a slow lignin washing from JF may have caused more relaxation. 18 This may have paved the path for rapid release; similar cycles of slow and rapid release has also been reported in other bio-derived polymer based urea coatings.…”

“…Tomato leafminor, T. absoluta, is a major pest on tomatoes causing serious damage to leaves and fruits. , In order to collect the volatile released by herbivory, the larvae were released on healthy plants maintained in a plant growth chamber. The infested plant was kept in an incubator jar with the flow of synthetic air.…”

“…Composites of tetradecenyl acetate pheromones with GO and NH 2 -GO, in which pheromones were assembled into a multilayer, were found to extend the diffusion path in pheromone traps via stimulating electrophysiological response in the antenna, leading to considerably enhanced efficiency in trapping of Tuta absoluta insects due to the extension of the pheromone life, compared to the commercial septa [ 171 ].…”
