“…Recently, magnetic separation technique (MST) has a wide range of applications including shape-selective [18], catalysis chromatographic separations [19], sorption of metal ions [20], enzyme encapsulation [21], DNA transfection [22], and drug delivery [23]. MST is based on the magnetic material, which is attracted to a magnetic field but retains no residual magnetism after the field is removed.…”

“…[2][3][4] Inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) is the most used technique in the determination of trace REEs because of the capability for rapid multi-element detection over a wide concentration range with relatively low detection limits. [5][6][7] Compared to other techniques such as neutron activate analysis (NAA) 8 or inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), 9,10 ICP-AES is relatively inexpensive. However, the low level of REEs in samples is not compatible with detection limits exhibited by this technique, and major constituents, such as organic compounds and inorganic salts, may cause some matrix effects.…”

“…The simplicity, ease of availability and compatibility of SPE methods with different measurement techniques make them proper alternatives for expensive and time-consuming separation/preconcentration procedures. For example, Liang et al [6] used a microcolumn of TiO 2 for the on-line preconcentration of La, Y, Yb, Eu, Dy. Rucandio [7] applied Dowex 50W X18, a strong cation-exchange resin, to separate REEs from Ba.…”

“…Also, major constituents in several samples, such as organic compounds and inorganic salts, may result in interference effects. Various methods have been used for matrix removal/preconcentration purposes, such as coprecipitation [4], liquid-liquid extraction [17,18], ion-exchange [7][8][9]13], and a variety of sorbents including chelating resins [5,6,[10][11][12]15,19,20].…”
