“…An increase of YF 3 content from 2.1 to 3.2 wt% has an insignificant influence on the density of the bulk material. The determined sintering temperature of AlN and AlN composites in the SPS process is 150-200 °C lower than the sintering temperature reported for nanosized AlN-based powders, sintered by conventional pressureless sintering [ 9 ].…”

“…The gas phase synthesis of AlN-based particulate nanocomposites was performed in inductively coupled nitrogen plasma (99.99) using a custom-built technological apparatus described in [ 9 ]. The aluminium powder (99.6%) with particle size in the range of 40-63 µm and Y 2 O 3 , YF 3 or Gd 2 O 3 additives (Treibacher GmbH) with particle size in the range of 10-40 µm was mixed by using a planetary laboratory mill (Retsch PM 400) and injected into the plasma flame (nitrogen 99.99) by carrier gas.…”

“…Plasma techniques have widely been applied in the production of nanosized nitride powders with improved and sometimes even unusual [1,2] properties. Nanodispersed nitrides and nitride composites, needed for the ceramic production, were prepared by using RF-ICP [13] . The products obtained, the particles' size and chemical composition and phase content, were controlled via the amount of nitrogen or ammonia intro-duced in the reaction chamber.…”

“…The particle shape is determined by the thermodynamic conditions of formation of the compounds involved. The growth of the particles in gaseous phase ensures symmetry typical for the respective crystals, namely, cubic for TiN, TiNC and ZrN and hexagonal for AlN [13] .…”
