Nanostructured zinc oxide filler for modification of polymer-polymer composites: structure and tribological properties

Abstract: Self-lubricating behaviour of materials is very demanded in industry. In this study we investigated the effect of anisometric nanostructured ZnO filler (tetrapod shaped particles with arm length of 70-100 nm and diameter of 10 nm) and ethylene-1-octene copolymer on structure and tribological properties of isotactic polypropylene (PP). It was observed that addition of EOC caused the increment of roughness as well as of the coefficient of friction (COF) of the investigated composites. Addition of ZnO, in its tur… Show more

“…As in the case of carbon nanotubes, nanoparticles play a major role in the enhancement of the mechanical and physical properties of nanocomposites. Different nanoparticles such as alumina [62], [63], [64], [65], [66], [67], [68], [69], [70], [71], [72], [73], silica [74], [75], [76], [77], [78], [79] [85], [86], [87], [88], [89], [90], [91], [92], [93], [94] have been used to reinforce different polymeric and metallic matrices nanocomposites (MMNCs and PMNCs).…”

“…Low UV and impact stability imposes limits on PP use in wider range. Inferiorities of PP could be solved by addition of ethylene 1-octene copolymer (EOC) and nano structured zinc oxide (ZnO) as it was observed in our previous works [4][5][6][7]. Quality of thermoplastic composites depends much on their melt behavior.…”
