Naringenin enhances NK cell lysis activity by increasing the expression of NKG2D ligands on Burkitt’s lymphoma cells

Abstract: Natural killer (NK) cells are capable of identifying and killing tumor cells as well as virus infected cells without pre-sensitization. NK cells express activating and inhibitory receptors, and can distinguish between normal and tumor cells. The present study was designed to demonstrate the importance of the expression level of NKG2D ligands on the Burkitt's lymphoma cell line, Raji, in enhancing NK cell cytolytic activity. Various flavonoids were used as stimulants to enhance the expression of NKG2D ligands. … Show more

“…In contrast, the thermally processed naringenin presented the best activity at the highest tested concentrations (21.6 μg/ml). Our findings are in accordance with a recent study conducted by Kim and Lee (2015). Macrophages perform a central role in innate and adaptive immunity through the lysosomal pathway.…”

“…It also has the ability to chelate iron (including Fe 3+ ) and copper ions and its dependence of structure and pH . Besides, NRG possesses antioxidant properties, preventing the depletion of SOD, CAT, GPx, and GSH . Recent studies indicate that NRG possesses several beneficial effects on tissues, and heavy metals intoxication and these results can be explained by its antioxidant effects.…”
