Natural convection heat transfer and fluid flow analysis in a 2D square enclosure with sinusoidal wave and different convection mechanism

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to propose an effective numerical approach for solving the natural convection in a two-dimensional square enclosure by using the single relaxation time-Bhatnagar, Gross and Krook (SRT-BGK) model (D2Q9) and lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). Design/methodology/approach Navier–Stroke equation is replaced by lattice Boltzmann method, and the numerical approach was simulated using LBM. LBM is a linear equation so, it reduces the computational time. The governing equations are so… Show more

“…Natural convection occurs because of the motion and mixing of fluid, induced by the density variations based on the temperature difference within the fluid. Natural convection has been extensively studied in recent works because of its wide variety in various applications (Siddiqa et al , 2015; Shirvan et al , 2017a, 2017b; Rahman et al , 2017; Oztop et al , 2017; Biswal and Basak, 2017; Sheremet et al , 2018a; Sheremet and Pop, 2018; Gerdroodbary et al , 2018; Chen et al , 2018; Pichandi and Anbalagan, 2018; Revnic et al , 2018; Wang et al , 2018; Ismail et al , 2019; Wong et al , 2019). The fluid flow in natural convection is strongly dependent on the shapes of containers.…”

“…A number of earlier works were carried out on natural convection in rectangular and square containers to visualize the effects of thermal boundary conditions (Ostrach, 1988; Sarris et al , 2002; Deng et al , 2002; Basak et al , 2006; Al-Hazmy, 2006; Deng and Chang, 2008; Deng, 2008; Alam et al , 2012; Kaluri and Basak, 2013; Shirvan et al , 2017a; Sabour et al , 2017; Gibanov and Sheremet, 2017; Sheremet and Pop, 2018; Alsabery et al , 2018; Sheremet et al , 2018a; Miroshnichenko et al , 2018; Pichandi and Anbalagan, 2018). A few works are explained next.…”

“…Natural convection exists widely in engineering fields, such as solar collectors, building insulation, insulating glass windows, heat dissipation of electronic components and heat dissipation from nuclear reactors. Because of the complicated mechanism and multiple influence factors, flow and heat transfer of natural convection in a closed cavity has gained the attention of researchers at home and abroad (Sun et al , 1983; Xie et al , 2016; Pichandi and Anbalagan, 2018; Górecki and Szumbarski, 2014).…”

“…The numerical model and the SPH method were validated by comparing the numerical results with the experimental data. Pichandi and Anbalagan (2018) proposed an effective numerical approach for solving the natural convection in a 2D square enclosure based on LBM. The simulation results depicted the natural convection heat transfer and fluid flow behavior in a 2D square enclosure mounted with various sizes of blockage ratios and imposed sinusoidal wave on both vertical walls.…”
