“…Subretinal exudates also decreased in 8 eyes. Spontaneous regression has been reported to occur in approximately 20% of patients with ARMD (Bressler et al 1988a(Bressler et al , 1988bPoliner et al 1986;Chandra et al 1974), so the outcome of the clinical series reported here is clearly better compared to the natural progression of the disease. The patients in our study who showed regression or complete disappearance of CNV had relatively small size and little involvement of the macula and CNV within one-half the optic disk diameter from the foveola.…”

“…S erous pigment epithelium detachment (SPED) in age-related macular degeneration (AMD) has been associated with choroidal neovascularisation (CNV) with increased risk of visual loss, in from 24% to 67% of cases (Teeters & Bird 1973;Meredith et al 1979;Braunstein & Gass 1979;Klein et al 1980;Gass 1984;Casswell et al 1985;Poliner et al 1986;Elman et al 1986;Hartnett et al 1992).…”

“…It is suggested that older patients who exhibit larger and more elevated PEDs are at a higher risk for complications (17) . The outcome of the natural history of 46 eyes with avascular serous PED demonstrated visual acuity of 20/200 or worse in 33% of the assessed cases (18) . The PED treatment results with anti-angiogenic drugs are variable; however, they indicate that the lesion stabilizes with the use of ranibizumab (Lucentis®) or bevacizumab (Avastin®), particularly in the cases with neovascular component.…”
