“…Several studies have explored the therapeutic effects of BBR on NASH in murine models (Qiang et al, 2016;He Q. et al, 2017;Zhao et al, 2017;Feng et al, 2018;Luo et al, 2019) and humans (Chang et al, 2016;Wei et al, 2016); Qiang et al demonstrated that demethyleneberberine attenuated lipid accumulation and inflammatory factors secretion with activation of AMPK and inhibition of oxidative stress in MCD diet feeding mice and db/db mice (Qiang et al, 2016). Feng et al compared the effects of BBR, curcumin, and lovastatin on NAFLD rats and found that BBR in combination with curcumin exhibited better ameliorative effects on rats with non-alcohol fatty liver than lovastatin (Feng et al, 2018). A meta-analysis included 6ix randomized controlled trials involving 501 patients revealed that BBR has positive efficacy on blood lipids, blood glucose, liver function, insulin resistance, and fatty liver condition of NAFLD patients (Wei et al, 2016).…”

“…Curcumin treatment could reduce AST and ALP levels in a rat model of NAFLD when compared with the untreated control, 1 and, in comparison to lovastatin therapy. 12 Hypoalbuminemia and hyperbilirubinemia are other abnormalities that are found in cirrhotic-stage of NAFLD patients. 8 In the present study subjects, the albumin and bilirubin levels were within the normal range and curcuminoids + piperine treatment maintained their levels within the normal range.…”

“…High-fat diet could lead to abnormal serum lipids by increasing serum TG, serum TC, serum LDL-C levels and decreasing serum HDL-C levels, which caused the formation of hyperlipaemia 13,19 . At present, the effective method in the treatment of the hyperlipemia was taking hypolipidemic, such as lovastatin 7 . Meanwhile, there have been many reports that oil containing unsaturated fatty acid, such as Silkworm pupa oil, Lemongrass oil, Starfish oil and so on 2,17,42 , were beneficial for attenuating hyperlipidemia thereby achieving the same effect as hypolipidemic.…”

“…Long-term high-fat diet consumption induced the first sign of NAFLD such as liver injury 7 . Serum ALT and AST levels, the common indicators of liver injury, were measured and the results were shown in Fig.…”
