Natural Triterpenoid-Tailored Phosphate: In Situ Reduction of Heavy Metals Spontaneously to Generate Electrochemical Hybrid Gels

Abstract: In this work, we reported a biocompatible nature product-based soft material which could convert heavy metals to nanoparticles (NPs) in situ spontaneously in a simple step. We have designed and synthesized a natural triterpenoid-tailored phosphate (methyl glycyrrhetate phosphate (MGP)), and this amphiphilic MGP could form the stable hydrogel and extract gold salt from water, followed by spontaneous in situ AuNP formation without external reductants. Notably, the AuNPs were mainly localized on nanofibers instea… Show more

“…Meanwhile, persistent intake of red wine lowers the risk of pathologies including cancer and cardiovascular disease. 34,35 As can be seen in Fig. 5, a deep violet DPPH solution centered at 517 nm gradually changed to a colorless pale yellow solution upon the addition of TA561, which resulted from DPPHc neutralization.…”

“…Fourier-transform infrared spectra (FT-IR) and 1 H NMR experiments were performed to infer the driving forces of the gel formation [32,33,34]. FT-IR spectra showed that in the gel state, the aliphatic C–H stretching vibration band of ursolic acid skeleton appeared at a lower wavenumber (2997 cm −1 ) compared with that in the solid state (3006 cm −1 ).…”

“…18,19 These features allow for the easy modification and stacking of rigid skeletons, thus rendering triterpenoids great supramolecular gelators. 20,21 For example, Bag group found that triterpenoids like corosolic acid, betulin, and ursolic acid can assemble into supramolecular gels with different spherical, flower-like, fibrous, and vesicular microstructures, respectively; [22][23][24] Cienfuegos et. al.…”
