Abstract

The targeted actions that protect-restore and encourage the preservation and sustainable use of terrestrial and other ecosystems are necessary to support the variety of living forms that inhabit land. Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 15 focuses on preventing biodiversity loss, effectively combating desertification, preventing and reversing habitat and land degradation and managing forests sustainably. In addition to providing vital functions like carbon sequestration, soil quality maintenance, habitat provision for biodiversity, water quality maintenance, water flow management, and erosion control, land ecosystems also provide a variety of goods including food, energy and building materials. These processes are essential for controlling the climate, promoting agricultural output and reducing the danger of natural disasters like landslides and floods. This chapter explores the multifaceted challenges and opportunities associated with SDG 15 (Life on Land) via focusing on the relationships between environment and biodiversity protection.
