Nb3Sn multicell cavity coating system at JLAB

G. Eremeev,
W. Clemens,
K. Macha
et al.

Abstract: SRF niobium cavities are the building blocks of modern accelerators for scientific applications. Lower surface resistance, higher fields, and high operating temperatures advance the reach of the future accelerators for scientific discovery as well as potentially enabling cost-effective industrial solutions. We describe the design and performance of an Nb 3 Sn coating system that converts the inner surface of niobium cavities to Nb 3 Sn film. Niobium surface, heated by radiation from the niobium retort, is expo… Show more

“…Extremely high quality factor with decay time of the order of few seconds were measured in SRF cavities in quantum temperature limit [156]. In addition to Nb cavities, the alternative materials Nb3Sn are being explored in order to achieve high quality factor, however so far the accelerating gradient are limited to below 20 MV/m [157,158,159]. Thin Nb3Sn cavities are fabricated using thermal diffusion of Sn on Nb cavities, potential for industrial applications [160].…”
