Abstract:In this paper, we study the nuclear gradients of heat bath configuration interaction self-consistent field (HCISCF) wave functions and use them to optimize molecular geometries for various molecules. We show that the HCISCF nuclear gradients are fairly insensitive to the size of the "selected" variational space, which allows us to reduce the computational cost without introducing significant error. The ability of HCISCF to treat larger active spaces combined with the flexibility for users to control the comput… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
