Near-Infrared-Fluorescent Probe for Turn-On Lipopolysaccharide Analysis Based on PEG-Modified Gold Nanorods with Plasmon-Enhanced Fluorescence

Abstract: Lipopolysaccharide (LPS), as the major component of the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria, can trigger a variety of biological effects such as sepsis, septic shock, and even multiorgan failure. Herein, we developed a near-infrared-fluorescent probe for fluorescent turn-on analysis of LPS based on plasmon-enhanced fluorescence (PEF). Gold nanorods (Au NRs) modified polyethylene glycol (PEG) was used as PEF materials. Au NRs were prepared with different longitudinal surface plasmon resonance (LSPR), and t… Show more

“…Novel fabrication techniques such as 3D printing enable optimal biomechanical compatibility, [18,19] and the material's unique physicochemical, piezoelectric, and imaging properties enable applications in biosensing and tissue engineering. [20] The multifunctional active coating significantly enhances the absorption of NIR and releases NO, O 2 , and bioactive molecules, making this material used in the photothermal treatment of infection and bone tumors, with multi-modality therapeutic functions [16,20] such as anti-inflammatory, osteogenic, immunomodulatory [21] and angiogenesis. [22] Although the surface coating technics have been developed on enhancing the properties of PEEK implants, the more simple, low cost, multifunctional and highly bioactive coating methods for PEEK modification are still lacking.…”

“…[19] For the above reasons, the combination of traditional luminescent materials to the protected GNR is still recommended. [12,20,21] In these cases, another effect based on LSPR, plasmon-enhanced fluorescence (PEF) has been extensively studied by scholars. The enhanced fluorescent signal could be contributed to the bio-imaging of the GNR-containing nanostructures by being decorated with various fluorophores or quantum dots.…”
