Nearshore Wave Dynamics at Mangalia Beach Simulated by Spectral Models

Abstract: The objective of this paper is to present an integrated picture of the relationship between the waves and the modifications induced by them in the Romanian shoreline. Thus, the hydrodynamic processes at the Mangalia beaches, located in the southern side of the Romanian nearshore, are simulated using the modeling system Mike 21 SW (MIKE 21 Spectral Waves), developed by the Danish Hydration Institute (DHI). This is one of the newest spectral wave models, which can be used for regional- and local-scale simulation… Show more

“…The creation of a "Living Lab" in coastal areas must consider a citizen-centered approach to research and development, taking into account technological innovations [10,12]. This type of approach will facilitate the interaction between stakeholders, bringing together all actors in the coastal area, whether we are talking about academia, the civic sector, state actors, or the business sector.…”

“…If, in the case of linear vision, users are formal and well-structured, with clear and precise attributes, in the case of Living Labs, these users are creative, informal, but deeply rooted in current reality. Therefore, in the case of Living Labs, users are urged to create in the most authentic contexts, under the observation of researchers and developers involved in the process [8,10,25]. The paradigm of mixed research in the case of Living Labs shows that users are considered as partners in the coastal management process, while in the case of traditional systems, they are considered as actors, the approach being organizational [26].…”

“…This model identified the relevant forces that put pressure on the analyzed coastal and marine area. This model can be implemented on any coastal area, starting by clearly identifying the activities and the pressure in the respective area, and taking also into account that each coastal area has its specific features [9][10][11][12].…”

“…As such, the study of TC-induced extreme significant wave heights (SWH) is at the current forefront of research and is traditionally accomplished by using an array of numerical models (Shao et al, 2019;Chao et al, 2020;Hu et al, 2020). However, although hindcasting, nowcasting, and forecasting (Alina et al, 2019;Cecilio and Dillenburg, 2020) can be https://doi.org/10.5194/os-2021-84 Preprint.
