Nebria (Pseudonebriola) tsambagarav sp. nov., a new alpine species from the Mongolian Altai (Coleoptera, Carabidae)

Abstract: Nebria (Pseudonebriola) tsambagarav sp. nov., a new alpine species from the Mongolian Altai (Coleoptera, Carabidae) Abstract Nebria (Pseudonebriola) tsambagarav sp. nov. is described from an alpine altitude in the Mongolian Altai. The new species is separated from other two Pseudonebriola species from the Mongolian Altai Mountain range, N. kerzhneri and N. medvedevi, by morphometric and morphological analyses. The new species and its habitat are illustrated, the subgeneric key is amended, and a distribution ma… Show more

“… MRA comprises a commonly applied set of tools for explorative data analysis. It is especially useful for addressing questions in systematics and evolutionary biology ( Baur et al 2014 ; Petrović et al 2017 ; Huber and Schnitter 2020 ; Selz et al 2020 ; Nagy et al 2021 ; Schmidt et al 2021 ). Here we calculated a shape PCA and plotted the resulting shape PCs against isometric size (i.e., the geometric mean of all variables).…”

“…Contrary to the normal application of these methods, MRA allows the interpretation of size and shape in a manner that is entirely consistent with the customary usage of body lengths and body ratios in taxonomy, for instance, in descriptions and diagnoses. Examples of the application of different MRA tools may be found in various papers ( László et al 2013 ; Baur et al 2014 ; Ali et al 2016 ; Huber and Schnitter 2020 ; Le et al 2020 ; Selz et al 2020 ). Here, we first calculated a general measure of size, “isosize”, which we obtained by calculating for each specimen the geometric mean of all measurements.…”

“…The 'PCA ratio spectrum' then allows the interpretation of principal components (PCs) in terms of ratios and shows the most discriminating ratio with respect to a particular shape PC. This approach has been used in several studies to find morphological differences among taxa (László et al 2013;Baur et al 2014;Huber and Baur 2016;Gebiola et al 2017;Waser et al 2017). The package MICE (van Buuren and Groothuis-Oudshoorn 2011) was used to replace missing values through multiple imputation within variable groups after excluding individuals with > 25% missing data.…”
