Negative Impact of Thermal Loads on Pressure and Non-Pressure Boiler Parts

Abstract: Issues related to the proper design of power boiler elements taking account of thermal loads are still relevant in this era of increasing variability of the boiler power output over time. The aim of this work is to present a thermal and strength analysis for a section of the membrane wall of a steam boiler, designed and manufactured in compliance with international standards, and approved for operation by a pressure equipment supervisory authority. Although the procedures were followed as required, the boiler … Show more

“…An important element of the modernization to the gas path was the gas flow regulator (6) with an electric drive, controlled automatically from the control cabinet. The section of the supply manifold between the gate valve and the quick-closing valves of the burners was connected to the safety line through a normally open blow-off valve (7).…”

“…A characteristic feature of their work is frequently changing thermal loads within a wide range of power regulation from 50 to 100% [1]. Low thermal loads and frequent transient operating modes result in reduced fuel consumption efficiency and increased emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere [2][3][4][5][6]. Ecological problems are exacerbated by the fact that such heat sources are often located in residential buildings that have relatively low chimneys [7][8][9].…”

“…As the power boiler is a pressure part during operation, the most important parameters of boiler steel are the creep limit, creep strength, the yield point at a specific temperature, and heat resistance. The boiler steel grade investigation regarding the impact of thermal loads on pressure and non-pressure parts in power boilers is presented in [33].…”
