Nematode Pheromones: Structures and Functions

Abstract: Pheromones are chemical signals secreted by one individual that can affect the behaviors of other individuals within the same species. Ascaroside is an evolutionarily conserved family of nematode pheromones that play an integral role in the development, lifespan, propagation, and stress response of nematodes. Their general structure comprises the dideoxysugar ascarylose and fatty-acid-like side chains. Ascarosides can vary structurally and functionally according to the lengths of their side chains and how they… Show more

“…However, fungi become nematode predators by acquiring the conserved ascarosides released by nematodes. Many ascarosides have been identified as inducers of trap structures, such as Ascr#5, #7, and #18 [ 50 ]. The addition of Ascr#18 in this study did indeed promote the production of adhesive nets in A. oligospora ( Figure 1 B).…”

“…A similar effect of salinity on LLPS has been reported for polyarginine peptide series. 65 However, subtle changes are observed for longer oligolysines, such as K 24 and K 40 . Additionally, with the addition of ATP, the diffusion coefficient significantly decreases in systems capable of forming LLPS.…”
