The southern distribution of the Broad-snouted Caiman (Caiman latirostris Daudin 1802) in Argentina occurs in Santa Fe Province, where its population has been under management by "Proyecto Yacaré" since 1990. From 1997 to 2016, we captured 77 nesting female Broad-snouted Caimans in Santa Fe Province. Our results suggest that previously defined size classes for Broad-snouted Caiman do not adequately describe the reproductively mature female segment of the population. Here we propose to change size ranges for general size classes for Broad-snouted Caiman. In addition, we have observed that reintroduced reproductive females by Proyecto Yacaré represent about 32% of captured females. These results indicate that reintroduced females by the management program are surviving and reproducing in the wild at least up to 20 years.Keywords: management, size class, reproduction, sexual maturity. Tamanho de fêmeas nidificantes do jacaré-de-papo-amarelo (Caiman latirostris Daudin 1802)Resumo Na Argentina, a distribuição mais austral do jacaré-de-papo-amarelo (Caiman latirostris Daudin 1802) ocorre na Provincia de Santa Fe, sendo que suas populações são manejadas pelo "Proyecto Yacaré" desde 1990. Entre os anos de 1997 e 2016, nós capturamos 77 fêmeas nidificantes do jacaré-de-papo-amarelo em Santa Fe. Nossos resultados sugerem que as classes de tamanho definidas para o jacaré-de-papo-amarelo não representam a realidade dos animais capturados no presente estudo. Portanto, propõe-se uma alteração nas classes de tamanho para o jacaré-de-papo-amarelo. Nós também observamos que as fêmeas reintroduzidas pelo "Proyecto Yacaré" representaram 32% das fêmeas capturadas. Estes resultados indicam que fêmeas reintroduzidas pelo programa de manejo estão sobrevivendo e reproduzindo na natureza por, pelo menos, 20 anos.Palavras-chave: manejo, classe de tamanho, reprodução, maturidade sexual.

Global urban expansion has multiple impacts on biodiversity and ecosystem functioning. Still, urban centres may play an important role in the conservation of reptiles, an undersampled, megadiverse and unevenly distributed group especially vulnerable to anthropogenic impacts. However, major gaps in research on the urban ecology of reptiles and species responses to urbanisation persist, which may limit our capacity to guide suitable conservation policies. We conducted a global systematic literature review to evaluate biogeographic, taxonomic and ecological research biases in the urban ecology of reptiles and ultimately to detect major gaps and steer future sampling efforts. Our database comprised 278 articles dealing with biological responses to urbanisation of 493 species across 45 countries, comprising 658 cases between a given species and specific biological response. Research on the urban ecology of reptiles was geographically and taxonomically biased. Developed countries within temperate regions were better sampled, whereas developing tropical and megadiverse countries were mostly undersampled or neglected. Among reptile orders, Testudines and Crocodylia were proportionally more studied than Squamata. Across lower groups within Squamata, lizards were present in most studies and were the biological model most commonly used. Studies evaluating biological responses associated with landscape-level processes, behaviour and/or population dynamics were prevalent, whereas conservation, human-reptile conflicts and wildlife management were the least considered topics. Our results show that research on urban ecology of reptiles is unevenly distributed across regions and lineages. Overcoming these major gaps is an important step towards the improvement of the conservation of reptiles worldwide under the upcoming biodiversity loss scenario. Beyond spreading sampling efforts across undersampled countries, taxa and research topics to meet conservation objectives, we recommend more multidisciplinary approaches to evaluate and compare the actual performance of reptiles in urban environments and to achieve the equilibrium between human well-being and species conservation.

Los cocodrilos se consideran especie clave ya que con sus actividades ayudan al buen funcionamiento de los ecosistemas que habitan, manteniendo abiertos los cursos de agua e incrementando el reciclaje de nutrientes, y proporcionando refugios en el cuerpo de agua para otras especies durante la época de sequía. El objetivo de este estudio fue conocer las características del hábitat que intervienen en la distribución de los cocodrilos en la zona norte de la Reserva de la Biósfera Sian Ka’an (RBSK). En el mes de julio a septiembre de 2018, realizamos 18 muestreos con un equipo de tres personas, con un esfuerzo total de muestreo de 120 horas y 349 km recorridos los cuales se navegaron con una embarcación al margen de las lagunas. En ambas lagunas (Muyil y Chunyaxché) se obtuvieron en total 63 registros de Crocodylus moreletii. En ambas lagunas se registraron nueve hábitats: Manglar, Zacatal, Vegetación acuática, Tasistal, Carrizal, Tular, Manglar/Tasistal, Manglar/Tular y Manglar/Palmar. El Análisis de Componentes Principales mostró que Rhizophora mangle y Cladium jamaicense tienen importancia en la preferencia de hábitat con relación a las categorías de talla de los cocodrilos. Las crías, subadultos y adultos presentan una mayor frecuencia de distribución y preferencia en el hábitat de Manglar. Por otra parte, los jóvenes registraron una distribución predominante en el hábitat de Zacatal. Se debe hacer énfasis en la relevancia de las especies mangle rojo y el zacatal como características indispensables del hábitat que determinan la distribución y preferencia del cocodrilo de pantano en la zona norte de la RBSK.
