Network Analysis on Green Technology in National Research and Development Projects in Korea

Abstract: This study examined how green technology (GT) has evolved recently in the domain of national research and development (R&D) in Korea. The analysis considered social network analysis by using keywords of national R&D projects in environmentally benign ('green' in this paper) technologies. Data for analysis were collected from the R&D database of the National Science and Technology Information Service (NTIS). By selecting the official GT category in the NTIS's database, we gathered 53,896 GT R&D projects from 20… Show more

“…In particular, a high degree centrality for a keyword indicates that many other keywords are linked to it, which indicates that research is being actively conducted in a specific field related to that keyword. Since betweenness centrality represents the shortest path between two unconnected keywords, a high betweenness centrality implies that the keyword is acting as a bridge between different research fields (Jeong et al, 2018;Lee, 2012;Borgatti et al, 2009). We used Knowledge MatrixPlus 0. has increased steadily since then to 231 billion won in 2019 (Fig.…”

“…Social network analysis (SNA) is an analytical model that is widely used to depict the connections among people or groups [35,36]. SNA techniques have been applied to analyse relationships and social ties in research fields including social science, economics, business studies, psychology and history [37,38]. SNA represents agents or actors as nodes and depicts the relationships between pairs of nodes as lines (edges) between them.…”

“…Little research has been conducted in GT fields using national R&D data. NTIS R&D data have been used in Jeong et al [9]'s network analysis to analyze South Korea's GT R&D trends from 2011 to 2016. Keyword centrality analysis determined that the centrality of solar cells and fuel cells was highest between 2011 and 2012, which means that South Korea has invested heavily in new and renewable energy technologies since 2011.…”

“…Due to its intrinsic features, graphene finds practical application in a variety of fields, including mobile devices, semiconductors, biosensors, flexible displays, etc. [7][8][9][10][11]. Furthermore, it has tremendous potential to enable technologies that can help to solve energy shortages and climate problems by applying in energy storage devices.…”
