Network Pharmacology Integrated with Transcriptomics Deciphered the Potential Mechanism of Codonopsis pilosula against Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Abstract: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the fourth main reason of cancer-related death. Codonopsis pilosula is a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for patients with HCC. However, its potential mechanism for treatment of HCC remains unclear. Here, we used transcriptomics and network pharmacology to explore the potential molecular mechanisms of Codonopsis pilosula. In our study, twelve differentially expressed genes (DEGs) (5 upregulated and 7 downregulated) of Codonopsis pilosula treating HepG2 cells (… Show more

“…Recently, Liu et al published a report on the application of network pharmacology to analyze the effects of Codonopsis pilosula on HCC. 41 In this report, Liu et al mainly used transcriptomics and network pharmacology to explore the potential molecular mechanisms of Codonopsis pilosula in the treatment of HCC. 41 In our investigation, in addition to the application of network pharmacology to explore the mechanism of Codonopsis pilosula in the treatment of HCC, we further constructed a risk prediction model of Codonopsis pilosula for treating HCC with hub genes.…”

“…Moreover, oral drug administration exacerbates the metabolic burden in the liver, which might result in metabolic disturbances and thereby increasing the susceptibility to carcinogenesis [ 86 ]. Issues regarding hepatotoxicity have been resolved by the promoted liver regeneration by BT [ 87 ], PP [ 88 ], BD [ 89 ], CH [ 90 , 91 ], LC [ 92 , 93 ], SK [ 94 ], and CWT [ 95 ]. ③ IBD patients are susceptible to malnutrition including anemia, amino acid, and vitamin deficiency [ 96 ], which could be rescued by PP [ 97 ] due to its hematopoiesis-promoting effect [ 98 100 ] and by the addition of pearl that is produced from shellfish mollusks which contain 20 amino acids and Fe and Mg elements [ 101 ].…”

“…Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a gradual progressive neurological disorder, and CP can be used to improve nerve cell function and reduce neurodegeneration, which helps to slow down the development of Alzheimer’s disease ( Xie et al, 2024 ). Colon cancer ( Cao Y. et al, 2019 ), gastric precancerous lesions ( He et al, 2022 ), liver cancer ( Liu Z. et al, 2022 ; Li N. et al, 2024 ), hepatitis ( Zeng et al, 2023 ), and colitis ( Li F. et al, 2024 ) are malignant tumors or inflammatory diseases of the digestive system, and CP plays an important role in preventing and treating these diseases play an important role. Interestingly, CP can also regulate the immune function of sepsis ( Choi et al, 2023 ), rheumatoid arthritis ( Wang Y.-J.…”
