Abstract: Relatively little is known about how the peripheral nervous system (PNS) contributes to the patterning of behavior, in which its role transcends the simple execution of central motor commands or mediation of reflexes. We sought to draw inferences to this end in the aeolid nudibranchBerghia stephanieae, which generates a rapid, dramatic defense behavior, "bristling."
