Neural Network Prediction of Human Psychological Perceptions of Fabric Hand

Abstract: Fabric hand is commonly adopted for assessing fabric quality and prospective perfor mance in a particular end use. In general, fabric hand is primarily assessed subjectively. Subjective assessments treat fabric hand as a psychological reaction obtained from the sense of touch, based on the experience and sensitivity of humans. It is very difficult to predict such psychological perceptions of hand based on fabric properties. In this paper, we identify reliable sensory fabric hand attributes with correlated attr… Show more

“…The intelligent techniques, including fuzzy logic and neural networks are also used for modeling the relationship between instrumental measurements and sensory properties. Hui et al have developed a neural network to predict the consumers sensory data from fabric properties (Hui et al, 2004). The predicted results are highly correlated to the targets in the fabrics made by five materials: cotton, wool, polyester, nylon, and acetate.…”

“…Obviously the prediction of the fabric hand is equivalent to the prediction of the low stress mechanical properties of the fabrics. The prediction of the fabric hand is a complex, highly non-linear problem and therefore an early target for the application of ANNs (Youssefi & Faez, 1999;Hui et al, 2004;Shyr et al, 2004;Matsudaira, 2006). The data from the FAST system were used to approach the hand of the fabrics (Sang-Song & Tsung- , while fuzzy logic has been combined with ANN for the evaluation of the fabric hand (Park et al, 2000;Park et al, 2001).…”
