This resembles the situation in the northern hemisphere winter 2014/15 when a virus of the same clade 2.3.4.4 caused outbreaks in six European countries (Germany [ 3 , 4 ], Italy [ 5 ], Hungary [ 6 ], the Netherlands [ 7 ], Sweden and the United Kingdom [ 8 ]), mainly in closed poultry holdings, and sporadic detections in wild birds and a zoo [ 2 , 3 ].
