Neuropeptide Y Y1 Receptors Meditate Targeted Delivery of Anticancer Drug with Encapsulated Nanoparticles to Breast Cancer Cells with High Selectivity and Its Potential for Breast Cancer Therapy

Abstract: By enabling nanoparticle-based drug delivery system to actively target cancer cells with high selectivity, active targeted molecules have attracted great attention in the application of nanoparticles for anticancer drug delivery. However, the clinical application of most active targeted molecules in breast cancer therapy is limited, due to the low expression of their receptors in breast tumors or coexpression in the normal and tumor breast tissues. Here, a neuropeptide Y Y1 receptors ligand PNBL-NPY, as a nove… Show more

“…Neuropeptide Y Y 1 receptor (Y 1 R) is highly overexpressed in human breast tumors and metastases (above 90%), while the normal breast tissues express Y 2 R only [41]. Recently, we found that Y 1 R ligands, such as [Pro 30 , Nle 31 , Bpa 32 , Leu 34 ]-NPY (28)(29)(30)(31)(32)(33)(34)(35)(36) and [Asn 6 , Pro 34 ]-NPY, play important roles in tumor-targeted imaging and therapy with high selectivity to breast tumors and less effect on other organs [39,42,43]. Especially, these Y 1 R ligands can reduce premature drug release during blood circulation due to their different spatial configurations under different pH conditions [39].…”

“…Metal nanoparticles of different sizes, shapes, and composition have many important catalytic applications [1][2][3][4] as well as applications in biosensing, 5 optoelectronics, 6 petroleum industries, chemical conversion, biology, 7 etc. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have attracted considerable interest due to their exceptionally high surface-to-volume ratios and abundance of edge and corner atoms.…”
