Neuroprotective Effects of Palmatine via the Enhancement of Antioxidant Defense and Small Heat Shock Protein Expression in Aβ‐Transgenic Caenorhabditis elegans

Abstract: Palmatine is a naturally occurring isoquinoline alkaloid that has been reported to display neuroprotective effects against amyloid-β- (Aβ-) induced neurotoxicity. However, the mechanisms underlying the neuroprotective activities of palmatine remain poorly characterized in vivo. We employed transgenic Caenorhabditis elegans models containing human Aβ1-42 to investigate the effects and possible mechanisms of palmatine-mediated neuroprotection. Treatment with palmatine significantly delayed the paralytic process … Show more

“…Palmatine ameliorated Helicobacter pylori-induced chronic atrophic gastritis by inhibiting MMP-10 through ADAM17/EGFR (Chen et al 2020). In addition, there are neuroprotective effects of palmatine via enhancing the antioxidant defense and small heat shock protein expression in a β-transgenic Caenorhabditis elegans (Jia et al 2021). Here, we revealed the improved role of palmatine on AMI-induced impaired cardiac function in mice.…”

“…Besides, Coptisine may bind to multiple critical targets for YZP during AD treatment. Palmatine is a naturally occurring isoquinoline alkaloid that has been shown to have neuroprotective properties against amyloid-β-induced neurotoxicity [31]. erefore, YZP can potentially treat AD with its multiple chemical components.…”

“…2′,7′-Dichlorofluorescein diacetate (H 2 DCFDA), a universal oxidative stress indicator, was used as a probe for the detection of intracellular ROS. H 2 DCFDA was oxidized by ROS to form the fluorescent dye dichlorofluorescein (DCF) ( Jia et al, 2021 ). The fluorescence intensity was proportional to the ROS level in C. elegans .…”
