Neutrino mass and extreme value distributions in β-decay

Abstract: We propose to apply the Extreme Value Theory for distributions with compact support to the estimation of the neutrino mass from the energy spectrum of electrons in β-decay. Using these techniques the dependence of the results on the mass of the neutrino is considerably enhanced increasing the sensitivity of the experiment. We discuss how these tools could be applied to the present proposals like the KATRIN experiment.
