Neutron Diffraction Study on the Structure of the Metallic Glass Cu57Zr43

Abstract: The structure of amorphous Cu 57 Zr 43 has been investigated by neutron diffraction using the isotopic substitution method with the isotopes 63 Cu and 65 Cu besides natural Cu. From the scattering contribution of concentration fluctuations to the measured structure factors and from the atomic distances chemical ordering is concluded to exist in amorphous Cu 57 Zr 4 3. The structural results are compared with previous experimental and theoretical investigations of CuZr-and other binary metallic glasses formed b… Show more

“…Up to now no experimental data on S N c(0 of this type of metal-metal glasses have been determined; rather this function was simulated by hard sphere models [5] or even neglected [6]. In [7]. however, evidence is given that the influence of S N c(0 in the low (2-range may be From the total structure factor the pair correlation function G(R) was calculated by Fourier transformation:…”

“…(2) and dividing by NT. As solute-solute bonding has been observed [12,[25][26][27][28][29]. Furdescribed for the 2D example, a maximum P is obtained for ther, the present model provides a hard sphere idealization specific values of R where NT is an integer, designated as with no distortion in solute-solvent bonds.…”

“…The present outcome of HB and TG approaches are very low compared to other such theoretical results [10,26]. The structural analysis of Cu 57 Zr 43 glass was done by Lamparter et al [27]. Suck and Rudin [28] have studied the dynamical structure factor, frequency distribution and the dispersion of collective modes of this glass using NIS technique.…”
