Neutron halo in 8He

Abstract: The structure of 8 He is investigated within a three-cluster microscopic model. The three-cluster configuration α + 2 n + 2 n was used to describe the properties of the ground state of the nucleus. The obtained results evidently indicate the existence of a neutron halo in 8 He.

“…They are also compatible with the results for the 6 He + 209 Bi [18][19][20] and 6 He + 206 Pb [21] systems. This is consistent with the intriguing possibility that the structure of 8 He may be represented as a 4 He core plus two dineutron-like clusters arranged on opposite sides of the core, somewhat similar to the model proposed by Nesterov et al [22]. Given that the matching conditions for 1n and 2n stripping are similar for 6 He and 8 He (they are somewhat better matched for 8 He) the cross sections should roughly scale according to the spectroscopic factors.…”

“…8 He is expected to have the α+4n structure [13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20], and thus provides a bridge between the 2n-halo nuclei and heavier skin nuclei. We mention that the spatial structure of the four valence neutrons in 8 He has been discussed in Ref.…”
