Neutron interferometry using a single modulated phase grating

Abstract: Neutron grating interferometry provides information on phase and small-angle scatter in addition to attenuation. Previously, phase grating moiré interferometers (PGMI) with two or three phase gratings have been developed. These phase-grating systems use the moiré far-field technique to avoid the need for high-aspect absorption gratings used in Talbot–Lau interferometers (TLI) that reduce the neutron flux reaching the detector. We first demonstrate, through theory and simulations, a novel phase grating interfer… Show more

“…The theory of the 1-dimensional MPG was originally derived in [24], which will hold for a 2-dimensional MPG if the grating is constant in one dimension. However, for this study, multiple MPGs were produced by Microworks GmbH, Germany, where the grating bars were staggered for improved structural stability, following a Bridge design, [29], as shown in Figure 2.…”

“…First, we will briefly review the theory of the 1-dimensional MPG [24], then detail the modifications necessary for 2 dimensions. For the 1-dimensional MPG, the grating transmission function is given as…”
