“…With the linac operating at 18 MV, recent measurements carried out by means of gold foil activation in Bonner spheres give at 40 cm from the gantry isocentre an H n (10) varying between 0.52 and 1.90 mSv/Gy [28], where the lower value was measured for a Siemens linac and the higher data for a Varian. Via the same technique a value of H n (10) of 0.60 mSv/Gy was obtained for a Siemens linac [33]. Measurements performed via thermoluminescent LiF:Mg, Ti chips placed inside Bonner spheres at distances between 25 and 80 cm from the isocentre gave values of H n (10) independent of the distance and variable between 0.34 and 0.86 mSv/Gy [34].…”

“…Gold foils, 197 Au, form 198 Au (T1/2 = 2.7 days), and the resultant 411 KeV gammas can be measured. Indium foils, 115 In, foils have a higher (n,c) cross section, but are not used as frequently for medical physics applications because of the short (54 min) half-life of the excited 116m In.…”

“…The analysis shows that a mean value of (2.13 ± 0.34) x10 5 n.cm -2 s -1 is representative for the isocenter of the ELEKTA SL Linac under consideration and corresponds to neutron fluence per photon dose of 5.53 ± 0.94 x10 6 n.cm -2 Gy -1 . Comparable fluxes and fluencies at the isocenter for similar Linacs operating with photon beams at 15 MeV have been reported in previous studies (Domingo et al, 2010;Howell et al, 2009;Kase et al, 1998;Saeed et al, 2009;Thomas et al, 2002). The neutron fluence ranges between 4.9 x10 6 up to 8.0x10 6 n.cm -2 Gy -1 depending of the construction material of the accelerator head, due to various Linac models and dimensions of the irradiation field.…”
