Neutrophil to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio as the risk mark in patients with type 2 diabetes combined with acute coronary syndrome: a cross-sectional study

Abstract: Chronic inflammation and dyslipidemia are important risk factors in developing atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, such as coronary heart disease. Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is one of the most dangerous syndromes in coronary heart disease. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is considered equal to coronary heart disease owing to the high cardiac risk induced by chronic inflammation and dyslipidemia. The neutrophil to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (NHR) is a novel and straightforward marker that… Show more

“…The higher NHR in a patient implies the presence of a higher neutrophil count and/or lower HDL-c concentration. As shown in a study including 211 hospitalized patients with acute coronary syndrome complicated by type 2 diabetes (T2D), NHR independently predicted the acute coronary syndrome risk in T2D patients [30]. According to another study conducted in China [31], high NHR independently predicted a high Gensini score.…”

“…Moreover, markers associated with HDL-C were also reported to serve as reliable indicators reflecting the degree of inflammation [15,17,19,21,[37][38][39][40]. Notably, alterations in lipid profiles among individuals with obesity include increases in serum total cholesterol, triglyceride, and LDL-cholesterol levels, coupled with a decrease in HDL-cholesterol levels [26,41,42].…”

“…Open access has been associated with intima calcification. [10][11][12] Carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) is regarded as an ideal biomarker for subclinical atherosclerosis and is associated with overall CVD, especially in patients with DM. 13 14 The CIMT is the distance from the lumen-intima interface to the media-adventitia interface of the artery wall, as measured on noninvasively acquired ultrasonography images of the carotid arteries.…”
