This chapter discusses selected generalized orthopedic disorders, focusing on those that are relatively common and that are often targets of surgical intervention. The four most common subtypes of osteogenesis imperfecta are presented fi rst, followed by discussion of neurofi bromatosis. The chapter then addresses typical problems encountered in arthrogryposis, as well as Down syndrome, sickle cell disease, and the many forms of mucopolysaccharidosis. Gaucher disease is reviewed, and then several brief sections address VACTRL/VATER association, limbbody wall defects, achondroplasia, multiple epiphyseal dysplasia, pseudoachondroplasia, and brachyolmia.
