New apparatus for haze measurement for transparent media

Abstract: Precise measurement of luminous transmittance and haze of transparent media is increasingly important to the LCD industry. Currently there are at least three documentary standards for measuring transmission haze. Unfortunately, none of those standard methods by itself can obtain the precise values for the diffuse transmittance (DT), total transmittance (TT) and haze. This note presents a new apparatus capable of precisely measuring all three variables simultaneously. Compared with current structures, the propo… Show more

“…Unfortunately, to date, various measurement methods still show inconsistency. In the first APMP TH pilot study (APMP.PR-P3), some commonly used methods in Asia-Pacific area were studied, including ASTM D1003, ISO14782, BS:2782 Part5, the double beam method [2], and the double compensation method [3]. Reasons causing inconsistent TH results were analyzed and discussed among NMIs [4].…”

“…10a. In order to assess whether the low transmittance of the devices is due to light scattering, we have estimated their transmission Haze number (H) in the bleached state, defined as the ratio of Diffuse to Total Transmittance (DT/TT%) following the ASTM test method D1003, described in [31]. The results appear in Fig.…”

“…In the following part, we fix the thickness of PB film at the optimal value (452 nm). Following the standard test method of ASTM D1003A [32,15], the haze numbers of the cell at bleached state were investigated and shown in Fig. S3.…”
