New Columnar Zn-Phthalocyanine Designed for Electronic Applications

Abstract: Columnar liquid crystals are composed of disk-shaped aromatic molecules surrounded by flexible side chains, where molecules self-assemble in columns and thereby form large surface-oriented domains. These systems are known for their good charge and exciton transport along the columns, with mobilities approaching those of aromatic single crystals. Such semiconducting materials are promising for devices applications, since the output efficiency can be tuned by properly aligning columns. In the work presented here… Show more

“…Phthalonitriles are the most widely used precursors for the synthesis of phthalocyanine (PC) dyes, which are used in many technological and medical applications, such as solar cells [1][2][3], liquid crystals [4,5], semiconductors [6][7][8][9][10][11], in photodynamic therapy (PDT) [12][13][14][15][16], and others [17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24]. Functionalized phthalonitriles are prepared by modifying pre-existing phthalonitriles using classical reaction approaches [25,26].…”

“…During the last century, several research groups discovered that such systems have a strong absorption in the 600–750 nm range and that they can be applied in many high‐technology areas such as transistors,2 liquid crystals,3 semiconductors,4 gas sensors,5 solar cells,6 catalysts,7 photodynamic therapy (PDT) agents,8 and others 9,10. However, unsubstituted PCs present limitations for use in some areas because of their tendency to undergo aggregation (π‐stacking interactions), which leads to low solubility in most known organic solvents and a reduction in their optical and redox properties 1.…”

“…De modo geral, as espécies monoméricas apresentam bandas Q mais finas, ao passo que as bandas mais largas indicam espécies associadas (AKTAS et al, 2014;DEMIRBAŞ et al, 2016). (CLAESSENS, HAHN, TORRES, 2008;BECHTOLD et al, 2012;PATON et al, 2012;ABDURRAHMANOGLU et al, 2017;ARIBAL et al, 2018).…”
