New Compounds. 1, 1-Di-(p-chlorophenyl)-1,2,2,2-tetrachloroethane

Abstract: 2) The Methobromide of ,3-Dimethylaminoethyl Salicylate.-The bromide I (36.8 g.), salicyloyl chloride (45 g., large excess) and dried benzene (75 8.) are heated on the water-bath until the evolution of gaseous hydrochloric acid ceases. The benzene is decanted, replaced by anhydrous acetone and the mixture boiled for one hour. This procedure is repeated and the solid phase subsequently recrystallized from alcohol as white prisms, m. p. 176', readily soluble in water, difficultly in alcohol; yield, 80%. Anal. Ca… Show more

“…The same procedure applied to (p-chlorophenyl)l.o-chlorophenyDmethylcarbinol gives 2,4'-dichlorobenzophenone, melt ing point 63-66°C ., in the theoretical yield. Similar oxidation of 1, l-bis-(p-chlorophenyl)-2,2-dichloroethviene derived from DDT has been used to establish the structure of DDT (9) and to analyze mixtures of isomeric DDT's (5).…”
