In Iraq, like most developing countries, attempts are being made to synthesize new compounds with several pharmacological properties. (E)-2-(3-(2-imino-1-methylimidazolidin-4-ylidene)-1-methylguanidino)acetic acid (L) has been synthesized and used as a ligand for the formation of Cr(III), Co(II), Ni(II), and Cu(II) complexes. The chemical structures of synthesized compounds were characterized using different spectroscopic methods. All chelates except Ni(II) chelate are found to be octahedral structures, Ni(II) chelate was square planar. The stability for the prepared complexes was studied theoretically using density function theory. The total energy for the complexes was calculated and it was shown that the copper complex is the most stable one. Ligand and complexes were tested against selected types of microbial organisms and showed significant activities. The free-radical scavenging activity of ligand and metal complexes have been determined by their interaction with the stable free-radical DPPH and all the compounds have shown encouraging antioxidant activities.

Compound 2 was synthesized by reacting CS 2 /KOH with compound 1. The treatment of compound 2 with hydrazine hydrate produced compound 3. Then, compound 3 was converted to Schiff bases (4a-d) by the handling with several aromatic aldehydes. The treatment of triazole compounds 4a-d containing Schiff base with morpholine gave compounds 5a-d. All compounds were tested for their antioxidant and antimicrobial activities. The antioxidant test results of DPPH radical scavenging and ferric reducing/antioxidant power methods showed good antioxidant activity. The triazole-thiol (3) was the most active, and the effect of the substituent type of the thiophene ring on the activity was same for both Schiff bases (4a-d) and Mannich bases (5a-d). Among the newly synthesized triazole derivatives, the Schiff base 4d and the Mannich base 5d carrying nitro substituent on the thiophene ring showed promising antibacterial and antifungal activity, with lower MIC values than the standard antibacterial ampicillin.

The discovery and optimization of a novel triorganotin(IV) complexes with anti-HCV properties are presented. Organotin(IV) moiety has the ability to bind phosphate group of RNA backbone. The organotin(IV) moiety is bonded with ligands and groups, which are known for inhibiting HCV enzymes. Triorganotin(IV) complexes were synthesized and evaluated for their potency against HCV by using luciferase assay. Structureactivity relationship studies led to the identification of Tributyltannic[3-(3 0 ,4 0 -dichlorophenylamido)propanoate] (compound 1) as a potent HCV inhibitor, with log IC 50 values 0.79 nM in the cell-based assay. Triorganotin(IV) complexes containing chlorine and nitro group display higher potency. Gaussia luciferase Assay shows that among triorganotin(IV) derivatives, butyl substituted triorganotin(IV) complexes are more active than methyland phenyl-substituted complexes.
